I Am - Sentence Patterns

This Word Bank provides picture-supported vocabulary for writing simple first-person statements which use the structure "I am" (plus an adjective). The repetition is designed to help children learn the elements of sentence construction. Once consolidated, they can use the structure as a model for writing their own sentences about how they feel.

The words are arranged with the starter "I am" at the top and a selection of picture-supported adjectives to complete the statement.

Children can read statements focused on this sentence structure in the Clicker Book "I Am – Read a Book." See the Sentence Set "I Am – Sentence Patterns" for a modeled writing set using the structure. For other sets related to this structure, or for sets focused on alternative sentence structures, search for sentence patterns or sentence grammar on LearningGrids.
