I Can - Sentence Patterns

Screenshot from I Can - Sentence Patterns

In this Listen and Say activity, children practise saying simple first-person statements which use the structure 'I can' (plus a verb phrase). The repetition is designed to help children learn the elements of sentence construction. Once consolidated, they can use the structure as a model for speaking (and writing) their own sentences about what they can do.

On each page, click on the picture to listen and then record. Listen to the recordings on the start page.

Children can read statements focused on this sentence structure in the Clicker Book "'I Can – Read a Book". See the Sentence Set "I Can – Sentence Patterns" for a modelled writing set using the structure. For other sets related to this structure, or for sets focused on alternative sentence structures, search for sentence patterns or sentence grammar on LearningGrids.
