    Compound Word Sums

In this Connect Set, pupils create a number of compound words by joining two smaller words together, for example "sun" + "flower" = "sunflower".

On the first grid, choose one word from the group on the left, followed by +, then choose a word from the group on the right which can be added to the first word to create a new compound word, e.g. "hand" + "bag". Then send the equals sign and move to the second grid. On the second grid, find the compound word that has been created by adding the two smaller words together, e.g. "handbag".

    Homophone Sentences

In this Connect Set, pupils learn to recognise pairs of words with the same sounds but different meanings and spellings. After matching the pairs of words, they then use them in the context of sentences to demonstrate their understanding of the differing meanings.

On the first grid, match each word from the group on the left with the word which it sounds like from the group in the right – its homophone. On the next grids, use the starters, middles and endings to create sentences. On each of these grids, create two sentences, selecting the correct homophone to match the meaning of the sentence.
