Changing Sounds Investigation

This Word Bank contains starters and vocabulary to enable pupils to write an outline of an investigation in which they find out how the pitch of sounds made by different instruments can be changed.

The tabs contain a frame and relevant vocabulary to write up the investigation in which three simple instruments are tested to see how the pitch is affected when a change is made.

To complete the tests: fill three bottles of water with varying amounts of water and blow across each one; stretch an elastic band across a box with a pen at either end, and pluck it with the pens at varying distances apart; tighten a snare drum cover using the drum key and strike the drum at different tightness. Make a note of the pitch of the sound with each variation.
